Abu Dhabi: The Teachers’ Tolerance Charter, which stipulates promoting the spirt of tolerance and equality across all educational sectors in the UAE, has been circulated to all public and private schools and universities.

The move comes in line with the directives of Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Chairman of the Education and Human Resources Council.

The charter falls under the National Tolerance Programme, which was launched by the leadership as part of its approach to uphold and entrench the values of tolerance.

The Teachers’ Tolerance Charter, which will be signed by teaching staff in all schools and universities, provides for the commitment to teaching and preparing students according to the prescribed curricula, teaching students to respect the UAE constitution, laws, and regulations, and adhering to the values of tolerance, compassion and cooperation to build a more cohesive society based on peace, tolerance and positive coexistence.

The charter also stipulates that teachers should govern their behaviour and actions with everyone based on non-discrimination.

Hussain Ebrahim Al Hammadi, Minister of Education, said that the UAE has made huge progress in the fields of equality, human and moral values and has launched many constructive initiatives and issued several laws towards that end.

“Tolerance should be a framwork that governs our society so we can live in complete coexistence and cohesion and this is what our wise leadership want to achieve,” Al Hammadi added.
