Dubai: A three-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool last Thursday during a family outing.
On Thursday evening, at the start of the long weekend break, the emergency section at Fujairah Hospital admitted the child.
According to reports, the family – of Gulf citizenship – visited the mountainous areas of Fujairah as part of a family trip.
The toddler reportedly left the family’s living quarters and went to play in a nearby pond.
The family then noticed the child struggling under water, and drove him immediately to the closest health centre, where he was transferred to Fujairah Hospital by ambulance.
Paramedics tried to resuscitate the child but were unable to do so, as large quantities of water had entered his lungs.
When residents camp outdoors, they are advised to take the following precautions:
1. The site should not be in low areas such as stream valleys, or next to a cliff
2. The tent site should also not be set up at the base of a cliff
3. Tents should be set up far away from cooking stations or where wood is burned
4. Be a safe distance from fuel depots, fuel storage tanks, generators and electricity poles
5. Tents should be in areas far away from water tide levels
