Dubai: An employee and his girlfriend landed in trouble when he stole Dh9,200 from her sponsor’s villa after they had sex and boasted about it before his friends.

The 21-year-old Sri Lankan employee, S.J., was said to have trespassed into the house where his countrywoman girlfriend, C.V., worked as a maid and had unmarried sex with her in August.

Then he stole Dh9,200 from the villa of the Canadian sponsor, who happened to be overseas, and bragged about it before his friends shortly before he and his girlfriend were apprehended by the police, said records.

Prosecutors accused C.V. of stealing around Dh9,650 from the Canadian sponsor’s house while S.J. was charged with aiding and abetting her.

The suspects pleaded guilty when they appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Sunday.

According to the charge sheet, prosecutors accused the maid of stealing $2,500 [around Dh9,200] and Dh450 from her sponsor’s residence. The employee was accused of aiding and abetting her.

The duo are also being tried before the Dubai Misdemeanours Court for having sex outside marriage. C.V. is also being tried for allowing S.J. to enter her sponsor’s residence without permission.

The Canadian sponsor testified to prosecutors that he was away when his neighbour informed him over the phone that a robbery had taken place at his house and police visited the scene.

“I called up the police and informed them that I would give my statement once I return from leave. And I did,” he claimed.

A police corporal claimed to prosecutors: “When I questioned C.V. she claimed that she had consensual sex with S.J. after she allowed him into her sponsor’s villa without the latter’s permission. She also admitted that she stole money. Meanwhile S.J. admitted that he took the stolen money from his countrywoman to boast about it before his friends … he also admitted that he had sneaked into the villa and had unmarried sex with C.V.”

The Dubai Court of First Instance’s presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi will hand out a ruling on November 16.
