dubai If your next European jaunt is still some time away, then Bystro on Al Manara Road could just be the place to stop by this week.
From all-day breakfasts served till late everyday to fancy sandwiches and super salads, this ‘modern European eatery’ serves all that you could expect at a café overlooking the Donau (Danube) in Vienna or a restaurant on the Thames near the Tower Bridge in London. So you could dig into a full English breakfast (Dh56) replete with bacon, sausage, eggs, sourdough and mushrooms or bite into a baguette sandwich of Chicken Schnitzel (Dh44) – Austria’s national dish – made in tapenade (olive puree) mayo and ‘Fontina’ cheese, served with crisp French fries. I chose the latter and for good measure, sipping along a homemade Spanish Sangria (Dh26) made of refreshing strawberries only and a spunky Passionfruit Bellini (Dh26).
There are plenty of vegetarian options too. Apart from a homemade falafel sandwich and an exotic Quinoa Super Salad, there’s a lavish Eggplant Parmigiana (Dh52) - made of deep-fried aubergine slices that are layered with cheese and tomato sauce before being baked to perfection. One thing to look out for though is the rich amount of cheese that goes into this traditional Italian dish. However, if a light lunch is the agenda of the day then a Pan-fried Salmon Fillet (Dh60) served with a chunky Indian raita and an enticing curry essence will do nicely.
Bystro’s best bet though is a quartet of their ‘Sticky BBQ Ribs’ (Dh80) made of beef imported straight out of Australia. Served with coleslaw and skinny fries, this lusciously saucy cut is really too ‘sticky’ to pass up!
You could end it all with a cup of your favourite beverage – a single estate tea or a creamy latte with either a chocolate brownie and salt caramel Super Sundae (Dh32) or an Italian ‘Sfoglia’ (Dh 16), that’s a puffy turnover with lovely fillings. I, sadly, could resist neither!
