Abu Dhabi: Twenty Emirati volunteers refurbished and renovated three government schools in Tanzania, as part of an international volunteer project.

The project was held from November 8 to 20 this year.

Volunteers from Emirates Foundation’s Takatof, a social programme designed to foster a culture of volunteerism across the UAE, spent ten days repairing and renovating three government schools in Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania.

Around 1,960 hours of voluntary work were dedicated to renovating a burnt multi-purpose hall in Lugalo School, building 100 desks for pupils at Mkunguni School and completing the renovation of roof sheets of six classrooms in Hananasif School.

“Like all our international projects, the Takatof Tanzania international volunteer project aims to encourage our youth to learn more about other countries and think about the importance of connecting and helping communities outside the UAE.

“It provide the volunteers with new experiences and enables them to represent the UAE internationally,” Maitha Al Habsi, chief programmes officer at the Emirates Foundation for Youth Development, said.
