Dubai: The total value of shares traded last month on the Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) reached 162.47 billion Saudi riyals (Dh158.72 billion, $43.33 billion), a decrease of 19.9 per cent over the previous month.

The total number of shares traded reached 6.74 billion shares during January, compared to 7.74 billion shares traded for the previous month, down by 12.87 per cent, according to the Tadawul website. The total number of transactions executed reached 3.07 million compared to 3.82 million trades for the month of December 2014, a drop of 19.8 per cent.

The TASI closed at 8,878.54 at the end of January, up 6.54 per cent over the close of the previous month. On Sunday, the first trading day of February, the index ended almost 3 per cent higher.

TASI registered an increase of 6.54 per cent (545.24 points) year to date. The highest close level for the index during the month was 8,912.50 as of January 28, 2015.

Total equity market capitalisation at the end of January reached 1,918.73 billion Saudi riyals, up by 5.84 per cent over the close of the previous month.
