Aiming at enhancing its position as the fashion hub in the region, Dubai Fashion Fiesta begins on Friday featuring renowned International designers.

Designers across the globe are showcase their collections during the Dubai Fashion Fiesta (DFF) as part of the Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) 2008.
 
Kicking off this Friday, the event runs till July 27 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Among the designers is Datin Noor Fatimah Ishak who has a reputation in the local fashion industry for designing new batik patterns.

Starting her boutique in 1986, Ishak specialised in batik trading and tailoring of traditional and contemporary dresses and later moved to designing modern apparel.
 
In 1998 she renamed her company D'Dreka and added interior design to her repertoire.
 
Eclectic

Preeti Chandra will be presenting her fusion collection, which is described as a "truly eclectic line that combines a feeling of yesteryear luxury with here and now appeal, creating a perfect synergy between tradition and contemporary design".

Chandra's collection is sold in the US, Middle East, India and Europe.

Leadership

Dutch fashion designer Jessica Joyce, who has a love for contemporary women's wear, will show off her sleek, edgy and avant-garde creations. Joyce's work is said to be simple and pure in construction but captivating and well considered in its execution.

Other labels on show include Falguni and Shane Peacock, Larisa Katz, Priyanka and Ruch, Ritu Kumar, Rohit Verma and Sanjeet Anand, and Furne One.

John Matthew, managing director of Emirates Vision Events, which founded the DFF, says Dubai is fast becoming a hub for fashion and is developing professionals to take up leadership positions in fashion business.
 
"Dubai Fashion Fiesta opens an opportunity for international designers to showcase their collections as an exchange of cultures and combines art of fashion with the art of trade. Compared to last year's event, this year's DFF has an increased number of participants."

  • July 24: Red carpet reception and cocktails followed by DFF opening and fashion show.

  • July 25, 26 and 27 Fashion shows.

  • Exhibitions are open to the public on all four days.
  • Time: 11am to 9.30pm.
