The four-day long chocolate event at Al Ghurair City treated the chocoholics of Dubai to their hearts' delight.
Chocoholics received a massive dose of their favourite treats at the Chocolate Event held at Al Ghurair City as part of the Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) 2008 festivities this weekend. Hosted with M&M Group, famed for their chocolate creations, the shopping mall had chocolate making exhibitions, displays of chocolate brands, chocolate dessert demonstrations and the Dubai's Best Chocolate Chef competition. The chocolate making exhibition comprised a fascinating walk through of the entire process of chocolate making, feature videos and life-sized posters.
Another attraction for mall visitors was a large stand displaying some of the world's best-known chocolate brands. Visitors were not only educated on the uniqueness of each brand and its history, but they also got to sample the delectable treats.
Once a day a live cooking show was held in a custom-designed kitchen so that visitors could get a chance to participate and share their favourite chocolate dessert recipes with the crowd. A judge from the DSS 2008 team assessed participants every day, and the winner received a complimentary dinner for two at a top Dubai restaurant.
Innovative recipes
While visitors got to try their hand at whipping up their best chocolate recipes, professional confectioners from Dubai's major hotels, patisseries and restaurants competed in the Dubai's Best Chocolate Chef event. The culinary whizzes came up with their own innovative recipes using chocolate as a main ingredient. They demonstrated their secret recipes live.
Al Ghurair City's public relations and events manager Mukta Sabharwal says: "Every year we join hands with DSS to come up with a series of exciting events that we hope will make our shoppers' experience even more rewarding and wholesome. DSS came up with this concept based on the simple premise that 'everyone loves chocolates'."
Al Ghurair City has hosted several other entertainment activities — Flower Rain, Floral Extravaganza, Food Carving, Modhesh Party, Circus Picnic — during DSS 2008 to provide families a fun atmosphere and a rewarding shopping experience Sabharwal says. Also, shoppers who spend a minimum of Dh200 at any of the mall's 200 stores will be eligible to enter a raffle draw with Dh4.5 million in cash prizes to be won.
