Spanish-inspired Ballet Ara De Madrid dance group is currently touring Dubai malls giving shoppers a taste of flamenco dances from the region.

“Without exaggeration I can say the group has toured the whole world," says the group's manager, Yelda
Erdogan.

The group usually has a long programme but during the Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) 2008 their concerts will feature only flamenco dances from selected areas of Spain, including Andalucía, Córdoba, Sevilla and Granada. “The group has rich repertoire of Flamenco dances and music, which they dance to with live music and singing," Erdogan says.

Authentic

Ballet Ara de Madrid represents the city of Madrid and shows all the typical dances of that area. They group is inspired by famous Spanish painter Franciso de Goya and this is evident in the costumes the dancers wear — the shades of colour used are identical to the ones the artist used in his portraits.
At all times the group aims to be as authentic as possible with their costumes, music and dance techniques, which requires genuine research, effort and an investment in traditional equipment and accessories.

Erdogan says the music is performed live “thus, the quality and success of this ballet is fully guaranteed". The group in Dubai comprises eight dancers and two musicians and singers.

The group was created in 1988 under direction of Carmina Villar who is the choreographer of the show, which aims to teach people about Spanish Folklore. “This has been a good way to expose more hidden traditions and discover the oldest customs of Spain," Erdogan says.

However the group is also adept at other Spanish dances and since 1995 have performed international dances from South America, Russia, Italy and France among others.
Ballet Ara De Madrid will be at Bin Sougat Centre today and Dubai Outlet Mall from July 25 to 27.
