Experience the magic of Emirati superhero Ajaaj at Modhesh Fun City.

The UAE's first superhero Ajaaj takes centre stage during this year's Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) 2008 at Modhesh Fun City. Sponsored by Watani, a social development programme that publishes the comic book series, visitors and residents are invited to join Ajaaj and his friends, Shamma and Humaid, on a futuristic journey to Dubai in the year 2020 where they experience some of his adventures.

Ajaaj is an Emirati superhero that comes from the sands of the UAE to rescue people, spread good deeds and fight evil. The character is a legend from the past that protects the future. Issues of Ajaaj comic books are available throughout the country.

"Before they reach their future destination, travellers are taken through the deserts of UAE that carry the secrets of its history and the essence of Ajaaj," say volunteers at the Ajaaj Adventures pavilion.

The electrifying journey consists of six stations where visitors will live the story of Ajaaj from his beginnings in the golden sands of the UAE. At the second station visitors will experience 3D effects and enjoy the view from the Watani tower.

At the third station visitors enter a museum showing the history of Ajaaj and his friends on three giant screens with scenes from the Ajaaj comic book.

Visitors will also enjoy a metro ride at the fourth station, but prior to taking the ride they will have to verify their identity through a biometric hand print device. Visitors will be able to see Dubai's landmarks and an animation of Ajaaj rescuing a passenger who is stuck on the metro rail.

At the fifth station of the journey, visitors will encounter foxes and robots that they will have to fight off with laser weapons. This will lead them to the last station where adventurers will battle to stay on their feet as a simulated cyclone engulfs them. Ajaaj does come to the rescue, however.

Thrilling experience

Ahmad Obaid Al Mansouri, coordinator general of Watani comments: "We have partnered for the second consecutive year with DSS to offer both children and adventure-seeking adults a thrilling experience that will guarantee fun and excitement right here. Instead of travelling the traditional way, we are offering them a journey to the future where they can take part in the fight against evil along with their favourite national superhero."

Al Mansouri says the Ajaaj event was created to showcase the true Emirati culture and heritage, which he is confident will form an essential platform for the future of the nation.

"Ajaaj and his friends act as our cultural ambassadors to the world. They reflect our values and cultural heritage in everything they say and do. This only goes to show that our history and the current development and growth are merely the pathway to a greater future."

Spacetoon music show

Dubai based Arabic TV channel for children Spacetoon is participating in the 10-week Dubai Summer Surprises 2008 festival with a series of activities. In the Hala Musical Show, a daily one-hour programme from the Modhesh Fun City, children will have the chance to interact with presenters.
