Sharjah: Sharjah World Music Festival (SWMF) 2017 has confirmed that Emirati superstar Hussain Al Jasmi and Egyptian singing sensation Sherine Abdul Wahab will headline the first evening of the event on January 6, 2017.

Organised by Furat Qaddouri Music Centre and sponsored by Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), two of the most famous names in Arabic pop music will perform at Al Majaz Amphitheatre.

Running until January 14, the nine-day festival hosts 24 artists from 13 Arab and non-Arab countries.

Al Majaz Amphitheatre, Masrah Al Qasba Theatre and Flag Island Theatre will host paid concerts. SWMF also features a collection of free concerts, shows and activities outdoors at Al Majaz Waterfront and Al Qasba.

With five pricing options ranging from Dh250 to Dh1,500, tickets for the concert of Al Jasmi and Abdul Wahab are available at Al Qasba Customer Service desk, Al Majaz Amphitheatre, Al Majaz Waterfront and www.ticketmaster.ae.

Artist Furat Qaddouri, manager of SWMF, said: “We are delighted once again to be able to present such a wonderful line-up of singers, musicians and bands. To host Hussain Al Jasmi and Sherine Abdul Wahab, who is making her first appearance in Sharjah, is a great achievement. These are among the biggest contemporary music names in the Arab world and we know that they will both be welcomed with an exceptional reception.”

The fourth edition of SWMF will feature a collection of concerts, musical shows and artistic activities with local, regional and international music, in line with Sharjah’s goal to be a regional incubator of culture and art.

Egyptian singer, TV star and actress Abdul Wahab, nicknamed the ‘Queen of Feelings’, has been singing to sell-out crowds for 15 years and has become one of the best-known acts of her generation. Her stream of hit singles and number one best-selling albums were followed by regular appearances on MBC’s programme The Voice, where she became a winning mentor.

Emirati superstar Al Jasmi has amassed more than 500 million views on YouTube, an indication of his global appeal and inspirational fusion of traditional Khaleeji and modern Arabic beats. The legendary singer has won several awards for his music and is also a Goodwill Ambassador for a UN-endorsed project to fight global malnutrition.
