Sharjah: His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, received on Wednesday Humaid Mohammad Al Qutami, Chairman of Board of Trustees of Sharjah Voluntary Work Award, and Dr Ameen Hussain Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary of Public Health Policy and Licensing and Secretary-General of the Award.

Dr Shaikh Sultan was briefed during the meeting, which was attended by Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, on the preparations for honouring winners of the 12th cycle and other key supporters and sponsors of voluntary and charitable works in March.

As he reviewed achievements made by the award, Dr Shaikh Sultan praised the tireless efforts being made by the Award’s Board of Trustees in promoting voluntary work as a well-established culture in the UAE community.

Dr Shaikh Sultan approved the construction of a three-storey building for the Award in Muweilah area. The building, the second to be dedicated for the Award, will be an investment project whose revenues will be channelled to serve the Award’s mission and vision.

The award aims to encourage volunteer work in general and urge the adoption of good conduct and noble morals.

It also contributes in attracting the youth to voluntary work.

Earlier in the day, Dr Shaikh Sultan received Dr Lisa Anderson, President of the American University in Cairo (AUC), and her delegation.

He welcomed Dr Anderson and they had cordial talks on matters of common concern. Dr Anderson spoke on her university’s achievements, its future academic and scientific research plans, and the scientific programmes offered at the university.

Dr Shaikh Sultan was briefed on the activities and programmes of the Sultan Al Qasimi Department of History at AUC, which specialises in research and historical studies, as well as the programmes of the Sharjah Art Gallery at the university, and its contributions in promoting Arab culture and art. The two also discussed aspects of cooperation between Sharjah and the university in the fields of science and scientific research.

Dr Anderson praised Sharjah for its expansive efforts in supporting education and scientific research and raising educational levels in both the emirate and the Arab world.

He also received British Ambassador Philip Parham, who was paying a courtesy visit at the beginning of his tenure in the country.

Dr Shaikh Sultan welcomed the ambassador and wished him a pleasant stay and success in strengthening the bonds of mutual cooperation between the UAE and Britain at various levels.
