Abu Dhabi: Seven unlicensed street vendors operating in the capital’s suburbs have recently been fined Dh1,000 each, the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City announced in a statement sent today (November 20).

The vendors were found by municipal inspectors during recent checks in Al Shahama, Seih Shuaib, Ajban and the truck routes. They were selling a variety of foods, including fruits, vegetables and fodder.

The inspections are part of a widespread campaign through which the municipality is working to educate residents about the health and safety hazards posed by unlicensed street vendors, especially as their wares and products are not monitored or checked. The statement therefore called on residents to refrain from patronising street hawkers, and to alert authorities about any violations they notice.
