A few days ago, I stood in the balcony of my house in the Al Majaz area of Sharjah. I was shocked to see that the street lights were still on even in the day time. Neither was it too cloudy, nor was it dark, but the street lights were switched on. This incident of wastage of electricity prompted me to write this report to raise awareness about the need to conserve electricity.

In today’s world, with the increasing population and rapid industrialisation, electricity is a basic necessity and one of the most essential energy sources. If we keep wasting it in this manner, it will become scarce and I am afraid that the day is not too far when there would be a severe shortage of natural resources and electricity would be considered a luxury that only a few elite would be able to afford.

Keeping the importance of electricity in mind, I would like to urge people and the respective authorities to take effective steps to reduce electricity wastage and consumption as far as possible. Small steps would make a huge difference in society. Be alert and avoid wastage.
