Abu Dhabi: The State Security Court at the Federal Supreme Court has adjourned the cases of two Emirati men to December 22. Defence witnesses will be called to speak at the next session.

The two consecutive court sessions presided by Judge Falah Al Hajiri were held on Tuesday.

The first defendant, M.A.S, 36, is accused of belonging to the Al Islah group, which is linked to the Muslim Brotherhood. The second, who is a Dubai Police employee, is charged with providing secret and sensitive information about Dubai Police to Iranian government officials via two intelligence officials working in the Iranian Consulate in Dubai.

The prosecution has accused M.A.S. of working for the fund-raising committee and say he was tasked to raise and transfer money between the group members and oversee projects for the group. The prosecution has demanded he receive the maximum punishment according to Articles 180 and 181 of the Penal Law.

The defendant has denied all charges while his lawyer has asked that the court hears testimonials from the defence witness who is a State Security officer. The lawyer also asked the court to pass him a copy of the investigative files.

In the second session A.R.B., 43, is accused of communicating with Iran, and supplying intelligence officers at the Iranian Consulate in Dubai with top secret and highly sensitive information about Dubai Police and high-ranking officials in Dubai. The prosecution says the defendant also provided confidential information about Dubai Police employees, and has demanded the defendant receives the maximum sentence according to Articles 5 and 155 of the Penal Law.

The defendant has denied all charges and told the court: “I confessed because I was under a lot of physical and psychological pressure from officers.”

He also said that he didn’t look at the case papers before signing them.

His lawyer has requested the presence of the State Security officers who questioned the defendant so the court can hear their testimonials, and requested the court to hand over a copy of the investigative files to the defendant.
