Dubai: Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of Dubai Sports Council (DSC), has endorsed the launch of the ‘Fitness Bus’ project under the aegis of the council in the near future.

The unique project will feature a bus carrying the latest fitness equipment, specialised staff and trainers and will tour different areas of Dubai offering health and training tips. Shaikh Hamdan had a look at the various aspects of the project and urged the DSC to speed up its implementation during a tour of the DSC headquarters at Dubai’s D3 District on Monday.

He took stock of progress made on various projects and initiatives being carried out currently by the DSC, including the state-of-the-art 50,000-seater Dubai Stadium being constructed in Al Aweer area.


Shaikh Hamdan was received at the DSC headquarters by Mattar Al Tayer, Vice Chairman and Saeed Hareb, General Secretary along with members of the board of directors of the DSC.

He also had a glimpse of the achievements of the DSC from its inception in 2006 till date, also reviewing the utilisation of sporting venues such as the 15,000-seater Hamdan Sports Complex that was inaugurated in 2010.

The DSC chairman had a look at the development of the stadia of 5,000-seater Hatta Club, Al Nasr Club in Bur Dubai that is being upgraded to seat 15,000 spectators, new swimming pools to be installed at all five Dubai clubs and a running track near the Dubai Police Officers Club.

During his visit, Shaikh Hamdan also visited the DSC’s Sports Innovation Lab that is meant to help develop sports performance and thinking while hosting workshops for talented students and athletes. Meeting up with a number of students from the Dubai International School, upcoming players from various Dubai clubs and people of determination visiting DSC, Shaikh Hamdan encouraged them to utilise the facilities and benefit from the Innovation Lab.

“Shaikh Hamdan’s visit is a source of great encouragement for us to work even harder and realise the objectives and vision laid down by our leaders,” Al Tayer told media later.

“The focus now is clearly on the health and lifestyle of communities while also pushing forward the development of the Hatta region,” he added.
