Dubai: Caroline Wozniacki has warned Belinda Bencic to stay focused after the Swiss became the first teenager since the Dane to break the World’s top 10 this week.

Wozniacki, 25, was the last teenager to achieve the feat back in 2009, aged 19, and went onto become World No.1 the following year but has since dropped back down to 19th in the rankings.

“It’s great to see young ones breaking through as it’s very rare these days,” Wozniacki told Gulf News on the sidelines of a visit to Dubai Ladies Club on Thursday. “I think she’s great and is doing well, I just hope she doesn’t let the pressure get to her, or the comments from other people.

“It’s very important she stays focused on herself, tennis is all about focusing on the next tournament. Even if you don’t do well in this one it’s OK, there’s always next week. There are so many chances. It’s all about loving what you do and keep working hard.”

Bencic, 19, broke the top 10 after reaching the final in St. Petersburg last week where she lost to Roberta Vinci 6-4, 6-3. However, she was knocked out in the first round of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships this week against Jelena Jankovic 6-4, 5-7, 4-6.
