Winning start for ladies at Sharjah Open
Beauty Mackleod, Fatma Abbas Al Janahi and Maria Bullilan all got off to winning starts in the opening round of the women's singles at the first Holiday International Sharjah Open Tennis Championships.
Dubai: Beauty Mackleod, Fatma Abbas Al Janahi and Maria Bullilan all got off to winning starts in the opening round of the women's singles at the first Holiday International Sharjah Open Tennis Championships.
Mackleod outplayed Irina Belova 6-1, 6-0, while second seed Al Janahi was simply too steady for Shadi Fazi with a 6-0, 6-1 win. Bullilan got the better of Sofia 6-2, 6-4.
In the boys under-16s, top-seed Daniel Dupont blanked Sabarno Majumdar 6-0, 6-0, while Mohammad Ahli got the better of Ashwin Gurunath 6-3, 6-1.
Second-seed Mohammad Al Janahi defeated Arjun Singh 6-1, 6-1, while Abdul Rahman Al Janahi out played Juan Carlos 6-1, 6-1.
In the boys under-14s, Shizam Vasudevan beat Gabriel Aldred 9-1, while second-seed Kirk Rebuyas beat Ishan Choubal 9-6.
In the boys under-10s' quarterfinals Fares Al Janahi defeated Mujahid 9-2 to enter the last four.
In the boys under-12s, top-seed Arjuna Ajay blanked Basel Casia 9-0 to move into the quarterfinals, while Ajay outplayed Puneet Varrier 9-2 in the quarterfinals.
Fourth-seed Fahad Al Janahi also moved into the quarterfinals with a 9-0 win over Adesh Phadke.
In the boys and girls under-10s, Yash Agarwal outplayed Rai 9-3 while Casia Rami beat Mohammad Nabil 9-3, and Dhruv edged out Nastia 9-6.
Meanwhile, Raj Kumar, from Sharjah, is the top seed in the men's qualifying competition to be held later this week. Ahmad Abranov is seeded number two.
In the men's main draw, Russia's Alexey Filenkov is the top seed, while Gregory Howe is seeded two.
