UAE's Al Janahi makes Fujairah singles final
Hamad Abbas Al Janahi will clash with Hassan Al Moosa of Saudi Arabia in the boy's under-18 singles final of the GCC Tennis Championships at the Fujairah Tennis and Country Club (FTCC).
Dubai: Hamad Abbas Al Janahi will clash with Hassan Al Moosa of Saudi Arabia in the boy's under-18 singles final of the GCC Tennis Championships at the Fujairah Tennis and Country Club (FTCC).
Top-seeded Al Janahi, a member of the UAE Davis Cup squad for the past two years, progressed with an effortless 6-3, 6-1 win against Ziad Hussain of Kuwait on Wednesday.
In the lower half of the draw, second-seed Hassan Al Moosa lived up to expectations with a 6-3, 7-5 win over UAE's Faisal Bastaki.
Organisers were expecting an all-UAE final given the current form of Bastaki.
After losing the opening set 6-3, Bastaki was trailing 5-2 in the second. However, he fought back and levelled at 5-5. All his hard work went in vain, though, as he lost serve in the 11th game and Al Moosa served out.
"It should be a good final between Hamad Abbas and Hassan Al Moosa," tournament director Khalid Al Ali told Gulf News.
Bastaki made up for his disappointment in the singles with the doubles crown as he teamed up with Al Janahi to secure a 6-4, 6-3 win against the pairing of Al Moosa and Fahad Wadani.
The under-14 title will see top seed Mohammad Redha of Kuwait battling surprise package Jaber Al Mutawa of Qatar.
Redha got past Moosa Shenali of Qatar 6-4, 6-4 while Al Mutawa easily defeated Talal Al Naama of Qatar 6-4, 6-3 to reach his first junior final.
In the under-14 doubles final, top seeds Moosa Shenali and Jaber Al Mutawa beat Abdul Hamid Al Shatti and Saoud Al Shatti of Kuwait 6-2, 6-1.
