Abu Dhabi: The Mubadala Tennis in Schools (MTiS) programme has been extended to last the whole school year.
The programme, which was started six years ago, will now run from the start of the academic year until May, giving students greater opportunities to take up the sport and improve their skills.
Having already introduced thousands of UAE youngsters to tennis, MTiS gives people the opportunity to take their first swings while promoting a healthy lifestyle.
MTiS continues to grow as the appetite for tennis in the UAE develops. This year, 20 schools will take part as the programme continues in its commitment to grow, particularly among the national community.
Following the MTiS launch, each participating school will receive two visits per month from a professional UAE tennis coach, who will host sessions with students and their PE teachers in an effort to enhance the quality of tennis coaching available in schools.
Each participating school will be supplied with mini-tennis kits sponsored by Wilson, and a manual with guidelines to drills, sportsmanship and an introduction to mini-tennis.
As the Mubadala World Tennis Championship approaches, two lucky students from each school will be selected to demonstrate their mini-tennis skills on centre court on the first day of the tournament.
The programme will then continue with sessions hosted at Zayed Sports City every week until May 2015, culminating in an End of Season Championship, where the skills of the youngsters will be put to the test.
