Dubai: What would a normal person do on his or her birthday? Probably have a party and celebrate the occasion. But not fourth seed Jelena Jankovic who was celebrating her 23rd birthday ... she had to get prepared for her semifinal today against Svetlana Kuznetsova.

"If I was at home I would have celebrated with my family and friends. But when I am playing in a tournament I need to keep my focus," Jankovic said. However much the Serb tried to keep her eye on the ball, her fans on centre court had other ideas. "They were asking me to come down to the garden and cut a big cake that they had bought for me," said Jankovic, who refused the offer and went to a side court to practice her serve.
