Dubai: Dubai Sports City caused an upset with a 3-0 win over Jumeirah Plaza in the third round of the Falak Holding Ramadan Tennis Cup at Al Nasr Club.

The win cemented Dubai Sports City's place in the semifinals along with unbeaten Falak Properties in the other group.

The last two semifinalists will be known after tonight's clash between Jumeirah Plaza and Habitat.

Represented by Omar Behroozian and Mahmoud Nader, Falak Properties powered their way to a 3-0 win against Emirates Sports Stores late on Thursday.

First win

Behroozian defeated Saeed Al Merri 6-1, 6-0, while Nader got the better of Ali Salah 6-1, 6-1.

Sports City's win came after Mohammad Abdul Aziz Al Nuaimi defeated Faisal Bastaki 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 in the super tie-break. Bastaki could have caused an upset of sorts, was it not for a lack of concentration on crucial points and some unforced errors from the junior UAE player. Issam Al Jalali continued the good work for Dubai Sports City with a swift 6-1, 6-2 win over another UAE junior, Hamad Abbas Al Janahi. In another match, Benedetti secured their first win with a 3-0 result against Lawazem Trading.

Rashid Bushaqar beat Salim Saif 6-2, 6-7, 10-8, while Hassan Sharif got the better of Sami Al Sa'adi 6-2, 6-3. In the boys under-12, Fujairah Club caused the biggest upset with a 3-0 win against Al Nasr 'B', while Al Nasr 'A' side-stepped Al Wasl 'B' by an identical margin.

The UAE’s Hamdan Al Kamali and India’s Je Je fight for the ball during the first-leg of the Asian qualifier for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, at the Al Ain
Club’s Khalifa Bin Zayed Stadium on Saturday. Al Kamali opened the account for the hosts with a penalty in the 21st minute, followed by another spot kick converted by Mohammad Al Shhehi in the 29th minute. Ismail Al Hammadi then completed the tally in the 80th minute of the match.
