Czech Minar heads list of qualifiers

Top seed Jan Minar of the Czech Republic moved a step closer to qualifying for the main draw with a fluent 6-2, 6-1 win against Gregory Howe of Great Britain during the qualifying rounds for the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships yesterday.

Dubai: Top seed Jan Minar of the Czech Republic moved a step closer to qualifying for the main draw with a fluent 6-2, 6-1 win against Gregory Howe of Great Britain during the qualifying rounds for the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships yesterday.

Also easing into the next round was second seed Viktor Troicki of Serbia with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Ivo Klec of Slovakia, while wild card from Pakistan and third seed in the qualifiers Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi failed to turn up for his match against Karim Al Ayli of Libya, who was also given a wild card.

Decider

The UAE's Hamad Abbas Al Janahi was also handed a wild card entry for the qualifiers against Mikhail Ledovskikh, who went on to win in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 against the UAE junior.

South African Wesley Moodie also moved towards the main draw with a three-set 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win over Paolo Lorenzi of Italy.

The last round of qualifying will be held today to decide which four qualifiers will advance to the main round.

Club’s Khalifa Bin Zayed Stadium on Saturday. Al Kamali opened the account for the hosts with a penalty in the 21st minute, followed by another spot kick converted by Mohammad Al Shhehi in the 29th minute. Ismail Al Hammadi then completed the tally in the 80th minute of the match.
