Al Wasl defend Division One crown
Al Wasl successfully defended their title in Division One at the end of the tenth and final round of the Falak Holding Men's Tennis League that concluded last weekend.
Dubai: Al Wasl successfully defended their title in Division One at the end of the tenth and final round of the Falak Holding Men's Tennis League that concluded last weekend.
In the tenth round last week, Al Wasl comprehensively outplayed Al Nasr Leisureland A 6-0 and Dubai Police 4-2 to take the title.
Thirty points behind log leaders Super Sports Mina Seyahi A and with two ties to play, Al Wasl never looked like relinquishing the title and secured comfortable wins to end the season on an unbeaten note.
Jumeirah Beach Hotel A only managed a 3-3 draw in their final tie which relegates them to Division Two along with Al Nasr Leisureland A for next season.
The league, co-sponsored by Emirates Sports Stores and Prince, saw easy wins for Al Wasl B over Hyatt Regency 6-0 and Super Sports Mina Seyahi C demolished Super Sports Mina Seyahi B 6-0.

Coral beach: Juniors shine in Sharjah
Talented juniors Grace Talih, Arjuna Ajay and Rashid Bushagar walked away with honours at the end of the 3rd Coral Beach Sharjah Open Tennis Championships last week. Top-seeded Talih powered her way to a narrow 3-6, 7-6, 10-3 win over Susah Bailey to win the women's crown. In the boys under-12, 11-year-old Arjuna Ajay beat Abu Dhabi's Karim Alaf 9-4 to win the title. In the men's qualifying final, Rashid Bushagar emerged supreme following a three-hour battle against Daniel Dupont winning 7-6, 3-6, 6-4. Troy Gillham and Gregory Howe outplayed Francois Rachman and Wico Nigrini 6-3, 6-2 to take the doubles crown. The prizes were distributed by Coral Beach Resort General Manager Emad Jawad Hussain.
