The third round of the UAE National Sailing Championship took place this weekend, organised by the Dubai Offshore Sailing Club.

Under strong westerly winds, 69 boats participated with representation from all the major UAE clubs.

Dinghy classes were divided for various ages in the laser, laser radial, 4.7, Topper and Optimists with a catamaran event also on Friday.

Jebel Ali Sailing Club members Daniel Larkins and Richard Wood captured first and second places in the Laser event, followed by John Rose of DOSC, fresh from his recent success in the Maktoum Cruiser Series.

Yousuf Mohammad dominated the laser radials followed by Valerian Nicolaou and Corentin Pillar.

Local sailors from Dubai International Marine Club showed the way in the laser 4.7 senior event, won by Adil Mohammad with Ahmad Shaheen and Khalid Esmail in second and third places.

In the younger 4.7 event, Jasem Ahmad sailed superbly, chased by Oskar Caneborg and Max Buerger to finish in that order.

Justin Walsh from JASC had six wins in the Topper Youth event, closely followed by club mates Alexa Soar and Guy Wolfenden who took second and third places.

DOSC junior topper star Joe Palau captured the first prize with fellow sailor Oliver Lamprell second and Edwin Ashcroft-Brown third.

The junior topper novice events were claimed by Nik Froud, Liam Sorrell and Olec Zyborshi with their 1, 2, 3 trophies going to JASC.

National sailors demonstrated their supremacy in the Optimists seniors, won by Hamed Mohammad and followed by Abdulhakim Bin Dasmal and Tariq Al Balooshi, respectively.

Winner of the Optimist Cadet event was Andrew Bywater of JASC with Ben Mills second and Ameen Tahir third, respectively.
