Smith calls for more international exposure

Dubai: Marcus Smith scored his second try of the Rugby World Cup Sevens on Saturday, but his Arabian Gulf side couldn't hold on and were tamed by Ireland in the Bowl competition.
The hosts' nine-month build-up ended in disappointment on the final day of the tournament at The Sevens, and Smith was understandably gutted. He feels the Union must ensure the side competes in more international events in order to dish out a solid performance at the Dubai Sevens later this year.
"I think it is essential to try and play more tournaments in a year. You can't just play one or two tournaments in a year and expect to perform well," said Smith, who scored a total of 12 points over the three competition days, having picked up seven - a try and conversion - in the 19-17 loss to Italy on Friday.
"The times are tough financially and we've been very lucky that to have had a few training camps, but other teams are playing more and it's no excuse but we need the constant support of the union and sponsors and the support of the guys."
"Maybe we can get a few fresh legs in and really look to moving forward."
