UAE's Saleh bags draw at chess event

The UAE's rising star International Master Salem A.R. Saleh held Grandmaster Al Modiahki Mohammad of Qatar to a draw.

Sharjah: The UAE's rising star International Master Salem A.R. Saleh held Grandmaster Al Modiahki Mohammad of Qatar to a draw.

However, Al Modiahki maintained his slender half point lead with 4.5 points after the sixth round of Arab Chess Championship held at Al Bustan Hotel.

Salem shared the second spot with Grandmasters Ameen Bassem, Al Gindy Essam of Egypt and IM Al Qudaimi Bashir of Yemen and FM Bakr Jwan of Syria.

Al Qudaimi won against IM Al Taher Fouad of Egypt while Bakr defeated IM Haddouche Mohammad of Algeria.

The game between Ameen Bassem and Al Gindy Essam ended in draw as the position was equal and neither had scope for further play.

In the women's category, WGM Mona Khalid of Egypt remained at the top of the table with 5.5 points after defeating Hamza Amira of Algeria.

WIM Mouradian Knarik of Libya and Mir Mahmoud Afamia of Syria are second with 4.5 points. Mouradian beat WFM Latreche Sabrina of Algeria while Mir Mahmoud beat WIM Mezioud Ameenah of Algeria.
