Abu Dhabi: Team Emirates notched a 6-4 win over Habtoor Polo Team in the ongoing HH The President's Cup Polo Championship at the Ghantoot Racing and Polo Club (GRPC) on Wednesday.
It was the second win for Team Emirates - who look virtually assured of a place in the final - but Habtoor's prospects are bleak with the loss following a drawn match with Ghantoot.
The Emirates-Habtoor match was a well-contested affair and both teams, with identical 10-goal handicaps, took some time to settle down, resulting in a barren first chukka.
However, Fernando Bourdieu Quinto fired the first salvo for Team Emirates in the second chukka but Habtoor replied with two of their own.
Their five-goal star Justo Del Carril scored two quick goals to give Habtoor a 2-1 lead. But Quinto, the only six-goal player on the field, made no mistake with a drive and just before the hooter Nasser Al Daheri gave Emirates the lead.
The third chukka was equally exciting and like the second, another five goals were scored. Quinto and Carril both completed their hat-tricks and at 4-3 for Team Emirates, three others got on to the score sheet.
Ahmad Bin Desmal did the UAE lot proud with a fine goal and soon enough Augustin Scopsi made it 6-3 for Team Emirates.
Stanilao Ramos, Habtoor's four-goal player pulled one back and the teams went for the break ahead of the final chukka with Team Emirates up 6-4.
But, after the glut of goals, the final chukka ended on a barren note and Team Emirates picked up their second set of full points.
The match was a well-contested affair and both teams, with identical 10-goal handicaps, took some time to settle.
