Dubai: Former heavyweight champion Michael Moorer has warned Global Impact Boxing Championship challenger Shelby 'The Bonetown Brawler' Gross to bring his "A game" to the ring for tonight's headline fight.
The four-fight card gets under way in the Shaikh Rashid Hall of the Dubai World Trade Centre at 7.30pm with Americans JD Chapman (28-0-25KO) and Rich Boruff (19-17) locking horns in the Heavyweight division.
That fight will be followed by another heavyweight battle between American Arthur Cook (13-2-1-4KO) and the Czech Republic's Onderj Pala (18-2-15KO).
The third bout will witness Emirati fighter Eisa Al Dah taking on American David Love in the Welterweight division, with Moorer and Gross fighting for the honours in the much-anticipated climax.
Gross was unabashed in his comments, claiming he would clinching a sure shot knockout victory over Moorer. But Moorer, who was light heavyweight champion before he could be crowned king of the heavyweight division, replied curtly, saying: "I haven't come here to disrespect nobody.
"Boxing is business and everybody who is in this business and knows me, knows what I can do.
Make a difference
"To beat me I would like to tell Mr Gross to bring his 'A' game to the ring tonight; not the 'B' or 'C' game because it's not going to make a difference as I'm the 'A' fighter."
Eisa, the region's first professional fighter, too, is hoping to spring the second surprise of his career after knocking out American Larry Foster in just over a minute during his first fight last year.
"I don't like to talk too much, but I want to say thank you David for accepting the challenge to fight me here in Dubai," Eisa said.
"I won't say anything to him; I'm just here to challenge him and I feel good about myself because I think I've had the right amount of training. I have always given this sport my best because this is what I want to do and I will do my best to keep the UAE's flag flying high."
