Abu Dhabi: Kuwait swimmers proved they are in a class of their own after dominating the GCC Swimming Championships in all categories for men, youth and juniors winning 8 gold medals from 12 at stake on Tuesday at the Olympic Indoor Pool of Al Jazira Sports Club, here.

Hazim Tshkandi, from Saudi Arabia, succeeded not only in breaking the dominance of the Kuwaitis in the Under 17 year competition winning the gold of the 400 m medlay but he registered a new record of 4 minutes and 49.07 seconds breaking the old record of 4 minutes and 51 seconds registered by Kuwaiti Marzoug Faisal. Abdul Rahman Al Oulan, from Qatar finished second and Saudi Sa'ad Ali Al Qahtani third.

Races

The Kuwait team of the 4x100 m Freestyle also registered a new GCC record of 4 minutes and 00.86 seconds breaking their own old record of 4 minutes and 02.59 seconds. Saudi Arabia came second and the UAE was third.

Nazir Mahmoud from Saudi Arabia won the 50 m Butterfly in a record time of 26.04 seconds breaking the old record of 26.11 seconds registered by his countryman Badr Abdul Rahman. Dawood Al Khalifi from Kuwait came second and UAE's Abdulla Sulaiman Al Dhaheri was third. In the other races of the Under 17, Abdulla Fahad Al Badr of Kuwait won the 400 m Freestyle in 4 minutes and 12.06 seconds.

50 m Backstroke:

(1) Tilal Nasir, Kuwait: 30.29 seconds. (2) Omar Saud Al Reesh, Kuwait: 32.05. (3) Ebrahim Al Emadi, Qatar: 33.54.

200 m Breaststroke:

(1)Salman Ebrahim, Kuwait: 2.36.52, (2)Nazar Abdul Wahid, Saudi Arabia: 2.37.95. (3) Ahmad Ghaith, Qatar: 2.46.35.

200 m Freestyle:

(1)Yousuf Rashid, Kuwait: 2.08.40. (2) Ahmad Mohammad, Kuwait: 2.23.50. (3) Abdul Aziz Al Marzougi, Qatar: 2.26.49.

Under 12 Years results:

200 m Freestyle:

(1)Jarrah Waleed, Kuwait: 2.17.72. (2) Mohammd Eissa Darwish, UAE: 2.28.00. (3) Ahmad Ali, Saudi Arabia: 2.29.86.

50 m Butterfly:

(1)Amir Hamad, Oman; 32.77 seconds. (2) Omar Faisal, Kuwait: 32.97. (3) Hassan Abdulla, Saudi Arabia: 34.39.
