Ivic to remain in charge

Dubai: The UAE handball association decided at its last meeting chaired by Khamis Al Qaaby, board deputy chairman, to renew the contract of the national team coach Nicola Ivic of Slovenia for another year.

The board also decided to renew the contract of his assistant Mohammad Darwish and team administrator Yousuf Al Hammaday.

The board approved in its meeting the participation of the UAE youth team under-20 in the World Youth Cup Asian qualifiers which will be held in Syria from July 25 to August 7.

The board accepted participation in the Arab schools sports tournament for players under-18 which will be held in Jordan from August 20 to September 1.

At the same time, the board apologised for not taking part in the Arab Youth under-17 tournament in Jordan in July.

According to the instructions of the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare, the handball association decided to introduce a ladies tournament starting from the 2008-2009 season.

The board have also decided to study the foreign players impact at their respective clubs to see if the teams have benefited from them.
