Dubai: Former Dubai-based swimmer Sara Isakovic is over the moon after achieving her dream of being crowned the new 200 metres European champion.

“I cannot believe what I have achieved. This is a result of all the hard work that I have put in over the past few years,'' Isakovic told Gulf News from Eindhoven yesterday.

The 18-year-old Isakovic, who has spent much of her childhood training in Dubai, was ecstatic at being crowned the new 200 metres freestyle champion late on Sunday. Her father Nenad is a senior pilot instructor with Emirates.

“This is so much of a dream. I cannot believe this. I think it will take me at least a week to realise what I have achieved,'' Isakovic said.

200 Freestyle Final: 1. Sara Isakovic, Slovenia, 1:57.45; 2. Camelia Potec, Romania, 1:57.47; 3. Agnes Mutina, Hungary, 1:58.06.
