Governing body pleased as World Championship qualifiers come to Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi: Harald Springfeld, the representative of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) and director of the World Championship qualifiers, expressed world ice hockey governing body’s delight at the fast progress taking place in the sport in the UAE.
“I am happy to be in the UAE for the third time,” Springfeld told a press conference here on Saturday. “The improvement that has happened to the game off and on the rink is amazing in the past two years here.
“I am proud to confirm that the IIHF is really delighted with this progress, which proves the great emphasis the country gives to ice hockey despite the difficult weather conditions and other obstacles.
“There is new, modern infrastructure and promising young players, which indicates that the future of the game will be glorious in the country.
“I am also happy with the organisation and preparations for hosting the qualifiers and I expect great success, wishing all the teams the best of luck in the matches.”
