Dubai: Haile Gebreselassie is aiming to break his current world record of two hours four minutes and 26 seconds in Friday's Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon.

The champion athlete has set many world records in the past with last year's record, set in the Berlin marathon, being the 24th in his career.

His manager, Jos Hermens, believes that 34-year-old Haile would be able to achieve a time of under two hours and four minutes.

The champion athlete aims to run 14 seconds faster at the 30km mark than when he made his record breaking Berlin run.

He says that breaking the record would only be possible if conditions were “perfect.''

Peter Connerton, the marathon's director is quoted as saying the course is “one of the flattest in the world''.

The forecast temperatures for tomorrow morning are between 13 and 15 degrees Celsius. Factors conducive to the world champion athlete achieving the time expected by his manager.
