Dubai: Dubai Sports Council (DSC) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Etisalat Academy on Wednesday.

The agreement is aimed at enhancing co-operation for the betterment of local sport.

It was signed at DSC’s premises by Dr Ahmad Al-Sharif, DSC secretary general and Dr Ali Mohammad Al Qaidi, Etisalat Academy acting director.

The Etisalat Academy will now provide facilities for DSC sports events and staff training. The agreement is part of the DSC’s strategic plan for 2011-2015, which aims to organise high-level sports events through joint public and private sector co-operation to develop sport in the UAE. Al Sharif said: “DSC enjoys deep-rooted relations with the Etislat Academy, which is considered a pioneering entity in the UAE as it provides valuable sports and tourism services besides other helpful programmes and initiatives.

“The agreement boosts bilateral relations between DSC and Etislat Academy, since both parties had jointly arranged a successful open badminton competition, considered as the first step for a long-term future co-operating plan. Today, we are signing this MOU wishing to attain several benefits for the local sports sector.”

Al Qaidi said: “This MOU comes as part of the Academy’s strategic plan to establish strong ties with leading organisations such as the DSC. The MOU enables the Academy and the DSC to complement each other’s efforts in developing human resources within the sports industry.

“Last year alone Etisalat Academy trained more than 12,000 participants from government and private organisations on technical and soft-skills programmes. This MOU should boost the Academy’s efforts for further achievements.”
