Champion overjoyed with his consistency
Bonhomme also puts victory down to hard work, while runner-up Arch ecstatic at dream result.
Abu Dhabi; "Our work over the winter had definitely paid off," said an elated Paul Bonhomme after winning the opening round of the Red Bull Air Race World Series here yesterday - watched by nearly 400,000 spectators.
The Briton, who suffered a heart-breaking loss of the 2007 RBAR Series title to American Mike Mangold due to his fifth-place finish in the last race, was all smiles as he received the trophy from Shaikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
"We've seen that all the pilots can go fast but it's the consistency, the fact that all my times have been low this week, which pleases me the most," said the winner.
Delighted
"Well, hopefully my plane will be good for all of the courses all year long too."
Hannes Arch, who went from rookie last year to runner-up here, said he was delighted to have beaten Mangold. "I am speechless," said the Austrian. "My crew and I put a lot of work into getting 2007 ready for this season but this is beyond my wildest dreams. I'm proud to have beaten Mike and to have made the final against Paul."
"I've been able to form a good partnership with my plane even though we've only been together for a few days," said Arch, who got his new Edge 540 just five days ago.
