Inaugural swimfest to flag off on October 16

Dubai: Jenny and Peter Mueller, along with their children Sarah, Tom and Paul, became the first family to register for the inaugural Abu Dhabi Swimming Festival scheduled for October 16.
The swimming festival that will be held along the Corniche area will feature a variety of open water competitions for all levels of swimmers, including individual and relay races for families, schools and corporates.
The Australian family, who have been residents of the nation's capital in the last seven years, have signed up for a number of the festival's races including the Waha Capital Abu Dhabi Mile (1.6km), where winners of the male and female categories will each receive Dh5,000, as well as the families relay.
"As an active and sporting family we are excited that Abu Dhabi will have its first open-water swimming event suitable for all ages. The festival is a great incentive to improve fitness and encourage residents to make the most of the emirate's great beaches. It will be a great day out I hope that we'll see many families at the Corniche this October," said Peter.
In the 700-metre Etihad Holidays Splash Dash, the winning male and female will receive two Business Class tickets to any Etihad destination in Europe.
Children's event
There will also be a 200-metre Etihad Holidays Splash Dash individuals' race for children as well as relay races for schools, businesses as well as families.
The Abu Dhabi Swimming Festival is supported by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the UAE Swimming Association.
