Armed Forces club gear up for sporting festival
The Armed Forces club's 12th Open Sport Festival will start on the second day of Ramadan, expected to be September 2, with 14 events.
Dubai: The Armed Forces club's 12th Open Sport Festival will start on the second day of Ramadan, expected to be September 2, with 14 events.
"The coming championships will be the first of its kind in both organising and the size of participation in marketing and sponsorship by national and international companies," said Lt General Mohammad Hilal Al Ka'abi, Chairman of the Armed Forces Officers Club and Chairman of the organising committee.
"This participation will promote a big public sport event which has already proved itself as one of Ramadan's biggest social and sport events not only locally but at regional and international levels," said Al Ka'abi.
Events will include seven-a-side football for men and ladies, judo, ladies' volleyball, tennis, bowling, table tennis, chess, swimming, snooker, electronic football, athletics, fencing and Jiu-Jitsu.
The organising committee said big prize money would be on offer for the winners.
Gold winners in the football competition will receive Dh350,000. Silver medallists will get Dh250,000, while the third place team will receive Dh150,000. Fourth place gets Dh100,000 and from fifth to eighth place each team gets Dh16,000. The championship's top goalscorer will get Dh6,000.
Registriation for participating teams has started will carry on through to August 26 for all Emiratis and expatriates.
