Al Sherif maintains lead in Chess Championship
Mohammad Hani Al Sherif, of Syria, maintained his sole leadership of the Abu Dhabi Government Departments Chess Championship after beating India's Abu Baker Ali in the seventh round, at the Abu Dhabi Chess and Culture Club.
Abu Dhabi: Mohammad Hani Al Sherif, of Syria, maintained his sole leadership of the Abu Dhabi Government Departments Chess Championship after beating India's Abu Baker Ali in the seventh round, at the Abu Dhabi Chess and Culture Club.
Al Sherif played an aggressive match with Ali defending all the time which made it easier for the Syrian to collect his seventh point to keep his leadership.
Filipino, Ronald Fernando came second with six points following his victory over Egyptian Saeed Kulani.
Armando Nachor, from the Philippines, came third with five points after beating his Pakistani opponent Feroz Ahmad.
UAE's youngster Zayed Ali Hamed registered a brilliant result in the seventh round when he defeated the more experienced Filipino Antonio Marbella to collect five points.
Also in the same round, Briton Nicholas Du Piar beat Indian Shahul Hamid to win his fifth point.
