Abu Dhabi open squash tournament begins on June 22
Over a hundred squash players are expected to vie for top honours in the Sheraton Abu Dhabi Open Squash Championship 2009, to be held at the Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel and Resort from June 22 to July 12.
Abu Dhabi: Over a hundred squash players are expected to vie for top honours in the Sheraton Abu Dhabi Open Squash Championship 2009, to be held at the Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel and Resort from June 22 to July 12.
Organised by the Abu Dhabi Squash Racquet Association (Adsra), the annual tournament - formerly known as the Abu Dhabi Open - is being sponsored by Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel and Resort.
"For many years, Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel and Resort has been providing and promoting various sports and overseeing the development of those who play them," said Roxanne Campbell, Recreation Manager, Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel and Resort.
"Our sponsorship and hosting of the 2009 Sheraton Abu Dhabi Open Squash Championship reinforces our commitment to serving the local community in all spheres and at all levels of society. I wish everyone who takes part every success."
The tournament, which is open to residents in the UAE, will be played on a knockout basis.
Each match will consist of five sets and will utilise the American (15 points) system of scoring.
There will be Super Division, First Division, Second Division, Third Division, and Plate competitions.
A separate tournament for junior players will be held after the summer break.
Adsra will be responsible for the seeding, draw and officiating in the tournament.
