Rome: Formula One driver Valtteri Bottas is close to a move from Williams to Ferrari for the 2016 season, according to a report Friday.
Corriere dello Sport said the 24-year-old Finn Bottas will replace his compatriot Kimi Raikkonen next season alongside Sebastian Vettel. The report said Bottas’ advisor and Ferrari agreed to the move, which will also have the Italian racing stall pay a 12 million euro (Dh48 million) transfer fee.
BBC reported that both Formula One teams refused to comment on the Corriere report.
Raikkonen has been rumored on his way out of Ferrari for some time now with the 35-year-old facing public pressure from the team leadership as well. Vettel recently spoke out in favour of the Finn staying on board.
Bottas has driven with Williams since 2013 and has collected 77 world championship points this season, ranking him fourth in the driver’s standings.
