Top rider Moodley predicts tough road ahead

Competition increases as pressure mounts on South African currently leading

Dubai: South African rider Arushen Moodley may be sitting pretty at the top of the standings, but he knows what possibly lies in store for him as the UAE motorsports season continues with the next race meeting in the first week of next month.

"The competition is getting stronger and I can expect some stiff resistance at the top," the Aprilia rider told Gulf News after winning both his races in the UAE Sportbike Championship during the Dubai Motorsport Festival held at the Dubai Autodrome on Friday.

Moodley dominated in the bikes competition winning ahead of Bahrain's Hussain Al Kooheji and the UK's Rod Scott in the first race, while he finished clear of Kawasaki's Scott Smart and teammate Abdul Aziz Bin Laden in the second race on Friday to make it four out of four.

So going into the next two races on December 4, Moodley will be the one to beat. "And there will be a lot of guys out there who will want to do that," Moodley predicted.

Teammate

One of them for certain is his teammate at Aprilia Bin Laden along with Liberty Kawasaki's Scott Smart or Yamaha's experienced rider Rod Scott, or even the self-funded and talented Zuzer Motiwala.

"There are a lot of riders lurking around for the top spot. The competition is getting stronger, but the good news for us is that our bike is getting better and the job is easier for us after each race," he smiled.

Moodley is no newcomer to top-notch competition following the Port Elizabeth native's triumph at the South African Bikes Championship in 2007.
