Abu Dhabi: Bosses at Yas Marina Circuit on Monday announced that fewer than 10 per cent of tickets for this month’s Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix remain following record sales.
The showpiece is the final grand prix of the season and is a potential F1 title decider, given that double points are on offer to the winner for the first time — 50 as opposed to the usual 25.
Britain’s Lewis Hamilton is 24 points ahead of Mercedes rival Nico Rosberg at the top of the standings following his victory in the United States Grand Prix on Sunday, with only this weekend’s race in Brazil remaining before Abu Dhabi.
A thrilling denouement to the F1 season has led to Yas Marina offering its largest ever allocation of 60,000 tickets — an increase of 5,000 on last year’s sellout — for the November 21-23 extravaganza.
Officials at the circuit said on Monday that tickets for the Paddock Club, Abu Dhabi Hill, Main and West Grandstands have already sold out, with all remaining tickets expected to sell out soon.
Tickets are selling fast across remaining Grandstand packages in North, South and Marina and in new products such as Marina Boxes and the Grand Prix Brunch.
“This year, the appetite for F1 tickets has been unprecedented,” said Al Tareq Al Ameri, Chief Executive Officer of Yas Marina Circuit.
“As we approach race weekend, there is less than 10 per cent left, even with our increase of 5,000 extra tickets for 2014. With the F1 drivers’ championship coming down to the last race at Yas Marina Circuit, as well as the incredible entertainment programme we have lined up, it won’t be much longer until we sell out.
“Those wishing to join us for what promises to be the biggest and best F1 event yet should purchase today before it’s too late. Don’t miss out on your chance to enjoy this fantastic racing and entertainment spectacle.”
In addition to the motorsports action, superstar DJ Armin Van Buuren, R&B giant Pharrell Williams and legendary rockers The Who are all confirmed to play the after-race concerts.
Egyptian movie star Tamer Hosny, celebrity singer and award-winning Lebanese actress Carole Samaha, Emirati musician Faiz Al Saeed and Palestinian star Mohammad Assaf of ‘Arab Idol’ fame have also been confirmed to entertain race-goers at the Du Arena on November 20.
