Motiwala awaits his new crown
Juzar Motiwala, the champion-in-waiting in the Stock Bikes Championship, feels riders still need time to catch up with him.
Dubai: Juzar Motiwala, the champion-in-waiting in the Stock Bikes Championship, feels riders still need time to catch up with him.
"There has been no competition for me this season in this class. Most of the riders need some more experience to start catching up with me," Motiwala told Gulf News.
Motiwala has all but sealed honours in the Stock category in the 2008 UAE National Bikes Championships that conclude with the final round at the Dubai Autodrome this weekend. The 35-year-old Indian struggled for most part of last season with an under-prepared bike and a lack of sponsorship support that ultimately forced him to pull out.
Strong comeback
But with Trading Enterprises Honda backing him, Motiwala made a strong comeback to lead the championship this season.
Of the 14 races held over seven rounds so far, Motiwala has secured 12 finishes at the top, one third and a fourth place - an amazing 13 podiums - to show for the current season.
With 328 points to his credit, this weekend's final two races are only a formality for Motiwala to close the championship.
His nearest rival is Jason Burnside, also riding a Honda, with 248 points is in a position to only narrow the gap.
Third-placed Hussain Al Khooheji with 202 points is the most improved. "He has improved dramatically, and had he been more consistent, he could have finished closer," Motiwala said.
