Latham proves untouchable in Max Seniors class at Kartdrome
A good field of 40 drivers, in all classes, turned up for the third round of the Rotax Max Challenge & DAMC Karting Championship at the Kartdrome.

Dubai: A good field of 40 drivers, in all classes, turned up for the third round of the Rotax Max Challenge & DAMC Karting Championship at the Kartdrome.
Word in the paddock was that many more drivers are likely to make it onto the grid, if not by the next round, by the start of next season as the recent stabilising the rules has once again made karting an attractive racing option for drivers.
Three-way battle
On race day Scott Latham was simply untouchable in the Max Seniors class as he won the final comprehensively after dominating proceedings from qualifying onwards. It was arguably the youngster's most impressive performance to date.
In the final, with Latham disappearing in the distance, a titanic three-way battle developed among Ashraf Raza, Rami Azzam and Saeed Al Muhairi for second place.
The three ran bumper to bumper for most of the final with Raza ahead in the early stages.
Azzam and Al Muhairi provided relentless pressure throughout and eventually Raza made a mistake.
"I came upon some back-markers and this slowed me down and not long after they made their move and got me," he said.
Both Al Muhairi and Azzam got by for a few laps but Raza was charging back and got by Azzam but simply had no answer for Al Muhairi who took second place - the young up and coming Emirati continues to impress by improving with every outing. Raza finished third with Azzam fourth.
Maurits Knopjes won the DD2 class after a duel with Saeed Al Shamsi in the Final. The latter took the lead from the start but Knopjes came back at him to take the win. Simon Dennis won the Max Master in the all combined Rotax Max Challenge races.
Sixty something year old John Mace was the only driver to compete in two classes, namely Max Masters and TAG Heavy placing second and third respectively.
Latham won the final comprehensively after dominating proceedings from qualifying onwards. It was arguably the youngster's most impressive performance to date...
