Fisichella: No regrets with Ferrari

Roman admits he is disappointed but says it is not easy to adapt to the car

Abu Dhabi: Giancarlo Fisichella was further than ever from scoring his first point for Ferrari after qualifying last on Saturday for what could be his Formula One farewell.

However the Italian, a stand-in for injured Brazilian Felipe Massa, told reporters at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix he had no regrets about his decision to join his dream team from Force India last month.

"I'm still happy with that choice because I did a fantastic result in the Force India in Spa [Belgian Grand Prix] and [achieved] my dream [of racing for Ferrari]," said the 36-year-old.

"It's going to be the last race of the season, maybe the last race of my career.

"Obviously I'm disappointed because I haven't done a lot for Ferrari, which was my target, but it's not an easy situation because the car is not easy to drive and it's not quick enough," added the Roman.

Fisichella left Force India after starting on pole position at Spa and finishing second for the team's first points.

His best result in the four races since then has been ninth place in Italy on his Ferrari debut.

"[Ferrari] give me a lot because as soon as I signed it was amazing, all the media, all my friends, all my family were very enthusiastic and I was too," said Fisichella.

Test driver

"I discovered another team. A many times world champion team. I did my best but it wasn't easy to adapt my style of driving to this car."

Fisichella has a contract to be Ferrari's test driver for next season but said he had not ruled out racing for another team.

"I am not thinking of racing with a new team. But if there is a good possibility to race with a team that has experience from the past then I prefer that," he said.

"But to start from the beginning, like Force India last year, I think is difficult.

"It could be Force India. There are a lot of teams without drivers so far."

Brawn's new world champion Jenson Button praised his former Benetton teammate's achievements over the past 13 years, with the Italian winning three of his 228 grands prix.

"Giancarlo is a very quick driver… it's strange to see he's not getting the performance out of the Ferrari but the performance is in him for sure, it's just extracting it," he said.
