Philadelphia: Philadelphia won its first ice hockey game of the season as Wayne Simmonds and Jakub Voracek scored to give the Flyers a 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers on Thursday.

Hossa nets NHL-leading fifth goal in Blackhawks’ comeback victory over Dallas
The Flyers not only avoided their first 0-4 start in team history, they beat the Rangers for the first time in two seasons. The Rangers defeated the Flyers all six games last season.
Taylor Pyatt scored his third of the season for New York.
Chicago’s Marian Hossa scored his NHL-leading fifth goal on a power play 1:41 into overtime to give the Blackhawks a 3-2 comeback victory over Dallas.
Patrick Sharp had a goal and an assist for the Blackhawks, who improved to 4-0 and matched the club’s best start set during the 1972-73 season. Corey Crawford made 21 saves and stopped a Ryan Garbutt a penalty shot.
Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews levelled it at 2-2 with 5:53 left in regulation.
Ray Whitney and Loui Eriksson scored for the Stars. Lehtonen made 38 saves.
At Edmonton, Alberta, Sam Gagner scored a power-play goal 3:01 into overtime as the Oilers rallied past the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 to leave the defending Stanley Cup champions winless in three games this season.
Nail Yakupov also scored for the Oilers with 4.7 seconds left in the third period.
Jeff Carter scored for Los Angeles, winless after three games for the first time since the 1985-86 season.
Andrei Markov’s resurgence continued with a goal and an assist as the Montreal Canadiens cruised past the Washington 4-1, leaving the Capitals winless after three games for the first time in nearly two decades.
Carolina’s Eric Staal scored three goals and Jeff Skinner added two as the Hurricanes earned their first victory of the season 6-3 by handing the Buffalo Sabres their first loss.
Matt Moulson and Michael Grabner scored two goals each at Toronto as the New York Islanders rallied for a 7-4 win over the Maple Leafs, while the Ottawa Senators won their third straight game to start the season with a 3-1 victory at the Florida Panthers.
In other games, the St. Louis Blues blanked the Nashville Predators 3-0, the Colorado Avalanche shut out the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-0 and the San Jose Sharks defeated the Phoenix Coyotes 5-3.
