Surour upbeat about World Cup
Godolphin trainer Saeed Bin Surour is set to add the finishing touches to his Dubai World Cup (Group 1) hopeful, Electrocutionist, on Monday.
Dubai: Godolphin trainer Saeed Bin Surour is set to add the finishing touches to his Dubai World Cup (Group 1) hopeful, Electrocutionist, on Monday.
Surour will breeze the five-year-old son of Red Ransom over five furlongs, which will be his final serious work before Saturday's race.
The ex-Italian horse, who was a stylish seven-length winner of the third leg of the Maktoum Challenge series three weeks ago, will be ridden by Godolphin jockey Frankie Dettori.
"We would like to see a nice piece of work from him," Suour told Gulf News. "He's come out of his last race well and is sound, happy and healthy. But we need to keep him ticking."
Surour, who has won the Dubai World Cup on four occasions, believes Electrocutionist will have every chance in the race. "He's a class horse and should run well. But you always have to fear the Americans. They are dirt track specialists," he said.
"This year, the Japanese horses look a threat as well and have very strong form on dirt. Electrocutionist has only run once on dirt, but he handled it well and hopefully that shouldn't be a worry."
