Ascot: Several horses carrying the famous maroon silks of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, are expected to be seen in action at Royal Ascot today.

While Godolphin's Cherry Mix runs in the meet's showpiece race, the Gold Cup, Silkwood is expected to turn out in Shaikh Mohammad's private silks in the Group 2 Ribblesdale.

Shaikh Mohammad last won the Ribblesdale, a race that attracts the Classic generation fillies, with the French-trained Tulip in 1996. Michael Jarvis, is hoping for a big run from Silkwood.

The trainer said: "We dearly wanted to run her in the Oaks, but she's a fast-ground filly.

"On Oaks day it was still on the soft side, so we thought it would be best to hang on to her, and we hope it stays dry until Thursday.

"She's a lovely filly and beautifully bred, but the question mark is whether she will truly stay the trip. If she does, I'm pretty sure she will run a big race."

Silkwood takes on All My Loving, third in the Vodafone Epsom Oaks, and Cosmodrome, who was supplemented to the mile and half contest at a cost of £11,000 by her trainer Luca Cumani.

The bay Sadler's Wells filly has run only three times and twice has come up against the filly that beat her to classic glory at Epsom.

Shaikh Mohammad has two representatives in the Britannia Stakes Heritage Handicap, a mile contest for colts and geldings, in Dubai Twilight and Regal Parade and also accounts for three runners in the King George V Stakes with Man of Vision, Philatelist and West Adventure.

He also is two-handed in the Hampton Court Stakes with Champery and Desert Dew.
