Dubai: Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation, has appointed Taleb Dhaher Al Muhairi as the new Secretary General of a revamped Board of Directors of the Federation.

Taher Dhaher Al Muhairi told Gulf News he was looking forward to tackling the challengers of his new role with the racing federation.

He said: "I thank Shaikh Sultan for giving me this opportunity and it is a great challenge.

"I am confident that with a lot of team work from the various equestrian clubs and organisations we can take the sport to a higher level."

Highly experienced

Al Muhairi has experience of the sport as a race-horse owner as well as from participating in equestrian events.

He said: "Apart from flat-racing, we have endurance, show-jumping, horse shows and other related equestrian activities.

"We would like to ensure all the equestrian disciplines develop together and we continue to produce winners on the regional and international stage."

Taleb Dhaher Al Muhairi has replaced Sultan Abdullah Al Marzouqi as the Secretary general.

The reconstituted federation board, which has a tenure from 2008 to 2012, now has female members for the first time.

Shamsa Awad Mohammad Al Otaiba and Shaikha Ali Al Daheri are now board members.

The federation has managed to have international success over the past decade.
